Matthias ForemnyIn 2003 Matthias Foremny became opera director at Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin and chief conductor of the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle.

Born in Muenster in 1972 he studied in Detmold and Vienna and was winner of the Prague Spring Conducting Competition in 1995 followed by his debut in 1997 with the Deutsche Sinfonieorchester in Berlin. After two years as deputy chief conductor in Detmold he joined Komische Oper in Berlin where he had a successful colaboration with Harry Kupfer. In 2002 he won the first prize in the German Conducting Competition of Deutscher Musikrat and conducted the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Cologne.

Matthias Foremny is invited to leading orchestras like Staatskapelle Dresden, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Dresdner Philharmonic, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin and many more leading orchestras at home and abroad.

Sergio Azzolini

Bassoon

 

Sergio Azzolini Sergio Azzolini was born in 1967 in Bolzano where he studied the bassoon from 1978 to 1985 at the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Romano Santi. After this until 1989 he studied with Klaus Thunemann at the Hannover School of Music. While still studying he was principal solo bassoonist of the European Community Youth Orchestra.

He has won famous international competitions such as the Carl Maria von Weber and the ARD competition and competitions of Prague, Belgrad and Bonn. The EMI record company has booked him for a number of chamber music productions.

Beside his regular solo activities Sergio Azzolini concentrates intensely on his ensemble IL PROTEO, is a member of the Maalot Quintett of which he is a member of ten years. He is a member of the Maurice Bourgue Trio and several musical groups with original instruments. As the baroque bassoonist he is member of the Continuo-Group of the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges under Christoph Coin and plays as solist with the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca.

Since 2002/2003 he is the artistic leader of the Chamber Academy Potsdam. Following his activity as professor at the Stuttgart Advanced School of Music, since 1998 he teaches the bassoon and chamber music at the Basel State Academy of Music.

José Luis Estellés

Clarinet

 

José Luis EstellésBorn in Valencia, Spain, can be counted as one of the most outstanding soloists of his country performing today.

He began his international performing career as representative young soloist for his native country both in Venice's "Concerti per L'Europa" (1989) and in Copenhagen's 1992 North-South Concert of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Since then, he has appeared regularly in the most renowned venues. That includes all major concert halls and international festivals in Spain, as well as in Japan, England, Italy, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the USA and France, together with celebrated soloists, chamber groups, orchestras and conductors.

Estellés premiered many pieces by composers as Luis de Pablo, José Manuel Lopéz, David del Puerto amongst others.

He was performed as principal clarinettist in various leading Spanish orchestras as well as in England, Belgium and Germany. Since 1991 he has been principal clarinettist in the "Orquesta Ciudad de Granada". He is currently Professor at the "Centro Superior de Música del Pais Vasco – Musikene" and chamber music Guest Professor at the Rotterdams Conservatorium, Holland.

Jean-Yves Fourmeau

Saxophone

 

Jean-Yves FourmeauHeir to the large French school of the traditional saxophone, Jean-Yves Fourmeau belongs to this race of musicians who, with enthusiasm, carry high the colors of their instrument. He makes radiate the saxophone under all his facets: Soloist, Chamber music, Orchestras and Teaching.

Exceptional in his career: first price of the CNSM of Paris at 17 years, 3rd cycle of chamber music saxophone and piano (of ever seen in 1978), since 2006 he is the saxophone solo in Berliner Philharmoniker, soloist in radio-France, founder of the quartet which bears his name and which is recognised like one of the best on the international level; professor with the academy of Cergy-Pontoise, the students come from the whole world to follow its courses. Guest professor Indiana University Bloomington (2000-2001). Artist consulting for the company Yamaha, he contributes to the artistic development and the acoustic improvements of the saxophone. Director of collection to the editions "Billaudot" he contributes to widen the repertory of the saxophone.

Jean-Yves Fourmeau gives concerts and master-class in Europe, Asia, Canada, the USA and Australia. He recorded 14 CDs and he is the only saxophonist in the world distributed under the label "PHILIPS classic".

Daniel Gauthier

Saxophone

 

Daniel GauthierDaniel Gauthier studied in Canada and France. After first prizes in saxophone at the Montreal Conservatory and Bordeaux Conservatory, he earned a doctoral degree in Interpretation at the University of Montreal.

At the age of twenty-four Gauthier became the first saxophonist to win the Grand Prize in the International Stepping Stone of the Canadian Music Competition. In addition, he was a prizewinner at the Ancona International Music Competition in Italy and received scholarships from the Canadian Art Council and Quebec Ministry of Culture.

Gauthier has performed in Canada's major cities as well as in Washington (D.C.), Newport, Tokyo, Osaka, Buenos Aires, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Verona, Istanbul, Athen, Ljubljana, Amsterdam and Salzburg.

Gauthier is active in the fields of traditional and contemporary music. He has premiered a number of compositions and collaborated with a lot of composers like Franco Donatoni and Hans-Joachim Hespos. He presented master classes in almost all European countries and also served as a jury member on all most important saxophone competitions.

In 1997 he was appointed to a professorship Detmold Academy of Music. In 2003 he moved to the Cologne Academy of Music. Since 2000 Gauthier has been a member of the International Saxophone Committee. He received two times the famous German CD Award "ECHO klassik", with the Alliage Quartett in 2005 ("Una voca poco fa") and as soloist in 2006 ("Spirito latino"). He appeared several
times on different European TV net works.

Dag Jensen

Bassoon

 

Dag JensenDag Jensen was born in Horton, Norway, and began bassoon lessons at the age of 11 with Robert Rönnes. He was principal bassoonist at the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra from 1985 to 1988 and held the same position at the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1988 to 1997.

Dag Jensen won the 1st prize at the Norwegian Youth Music Competition and twice won the Coveted ARD Music Competition in Munich in 1984 and 1990.

His numerous solo appearances with renowned orchestras has taken him throughout Europe, the United States and Japan. 2003 he was principal bassoonist in the newly founded Lucern festival orchestra under Claudio Abbado. Seiji Ozawa asked him to join the Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra as principal bassoonist.

Chamber music plays an important part in his musical life and he his a member of the Sabine Meyer Wind Ensemble and the Ensemble Villa Musica and is a regular guest at several music festivals national and international.

His artistic career is well documented on CD. Dag Jensen has been professor at the Hannover Academy of Music and Theatre since 1997. Many of his students have won prizes of national and international music competitions.

Ralph Manno

Clarinet

 

Ralph MannoWith only being 29 years old he became professor for clarinet at the Hochschule für Musik Cologne and is leading one of the most successful masterclasses for clarinet in Europe. He is one of the leading clarinetists of his generation and is performing as solist on many international festivals and concert halls.

After his studies in Cologne he received national and international scholarships as the "Studienstiftung des Deutsche Volkes" and the "Herbert-von-Karajan-Academy" of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and he was prize winner of the "Deutsche Musikwettbewerb". Already at the age of 20 he became the solo-clarinetist of WDR Orchestra Cologne before Sergiu Celibidache called him to join the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

As solist he has been performing with renown orchestras on national and international concert stages and festivals such as Suntory Hall – Tokyo, Lincoln Centre – New York, Téatro Colon – Buenos Aires etc. He dedicates himself with great enthusiasm to chamber music. He is giving concerts and master classes regularly in the USA, Japan, South America, Australia and Europe.

Ralph Manno's discography is huge and contains most of the famous compositions for clarinet by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann as well as 20th century composers from Hindemith, Strawinsky, Messaien, Bartok etc.

"Phanomenal intensity" writes the "Neue Züricher Zeitung" about Ralph Manno's clarinet playing. "Highlights of classic" is the headline of the "New York Times".

Raimund Wippermann

 

Raimund WippermannRaimund Wippermann studied music teaching, sacred music and choirmaster at the University of Music in Cologne and Duesseldorf. Post graduate studies at the conservatory in Stockholm followed (amongst others with Professor Eric Ericson); several years' engagement as church musician; 1991 appointment as Director of Music at the dome in Essen where he was entrusted with the direction of the dome choir and the formation of the girls' choir.

Since 1997 is Raimund Wippermann professor for choir conducting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf where he already started as a teacher in 1990. A special emphasis of his work as professor is the choir master teaching of students of sacred music.

Since August 2004 he has been the director of the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.

Raimund Wippermann is the founder and artistic director of the chamber choir Cantemus. From 1995 until September 2000 he was also choir master of the Städtischer Musikverein in Düsseldorf.

He has been a price winner of the German choir competition with his chamber choir Cantemus in 1990 in Stuttgart and has received the scholarship of the Deutsche Musikrat and has also won a price in the German choir competition 2002 in Osnabrück with his girls' choir of the Dome in Essen. He is a regular guest conductor of the radio choir of the Bayerischer Rundfunk.
